At this point, it looks like we may have more than a few more months to wait until Apple’s newest iPhone. Ditto the Samsung Galaxy S3, although there is a good chance we shall be seeing it appear before the iPhone 5.
Which leads us to the $64 million dollar question – is there any other handset scheduled for a 2012 release that could give Apple and Samsung some competition?
What options are available to those who can’t wait for either manufacturer’s flagship handset?
Right now two of the more attractive options are the Sony Xperia S and HTC Endeavor, which are expected to come out before either of the above devices.
Having made its first public appearance (and a successful one) at last month’s CES, the Sony Xperia S features one of the best rear-facing cameras available (12 MP) and is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and Android 2.3 Gingerbread out of the box. n update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be made available in the second quarter of the year. Additionally, the Xperia S shall be the first Sony smartphone release following their breakaway from Ericsson.
As for the HTC Endeavor, international consumers may have to wait till May or June for its release (possibly later for the US market), but it shall be previewed at this year’s MWC in Barcelona. Its features include a quad-core CPU, making it more powerful than the Xperia S, an 8-megapixel rear shooter and will be shipping with Android ICS.
